College Work-Study Authorization

Federal College Work-Study is an opportunity for on-campus
employment for the coming academic year. It is not, however, a
guarantee of employment. It is a need-based Financial Aid Program.

The dollar amount of a student's authorization is what normally
determines how many hours a semester they may work. In general, Work-
Study students work 10-12 hours per week during the school year.

Since its purpose is to help the student meet the miscellaneous
expenses that are associated with a college education, the money
earned is paid directly to the student. Pay periods at the University
of Delaware are every two weeks. Pay scales begin at the federal
minimum wage level and progress through three job classification
levels. Most jobs are available in academic and administrative
offices, where students handle such clerical tasks as typing and
filing, answering phones, serving as laboratory or research
assistants, entering data on computers, or tutoring.

Here are the steps you need to follow if given Work-Study
authorization:

1. Please complete the Work-Study Information Form and return it
immediately to: Student Services Building, 30 Lovett Avenue,
Newark, DE 19716. The information you provide on the form will
help us provide you with a job interview that is consistent with
    your particular skills and interests.

2. If you meet the deadline above, in late August you will be mailed
interview information indicating the University department and
person with whom you will be interviewing. As soon as you arrive
on campus, you should contact this person to arrange a time for
your interview. University offices are generally open Mondays
through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. (If it is possible
for you to interview before the beginning of school, feel free to
    do so.)

3. Work will not begin until the first day of classes. If your
interviewer does not offer you a job, then you may return to the
Work-Study Office to receive another job referral.
