University of Delaware Official Student Handbook 1995-1996 University Services for Students ASPIRE Program The ASPIRE Program (Academic Support Program Inspiring Renaissance Education) is a recruitment and retention program in the College of Education for African-American, Hispanic and Native-American students who are interested in teaching elementary or special education. ASPIRE students receive intense academic advising, especially during the freshman and sophomore years, to assist them in becoming successful in the transition to college. Academic support programs such as group and individual tutorials, supplemental instruction and skill mods provide the academic resources for students to excel. Monthly professional development meetings provide opportunities for students to meet influential members of the education community and to hear about issues which are important to professional educators.
