Cable TV in Residence Halls

Every residence hall is part of the University's campus cable television
and FM radio system and has at least one cable-connected TV that can be
used by any resident of that hall. Every residence hall room is also wired
for Cable TV so that resident students can take advantage of the cable
system in their rooms or apartments. The cable system also improves your FM
radio reception for stations from Philadelphia to Baltimore. There is no
additional charge for these services.
In addition to a wide variety of broadcast and satellite channels, the
system carries three University channels: Channel 2, the University of
Delaware information channel designed to provide you with information on a
variety of topics; Channel 48, which carries University of Delaware
programming; and Channel 47, the UDTV Guide Channel, offering an hourly
listing of all other channels.
When you check into your residence hall room or apartment, you should
find a tent card listing the available television channels and FM stations.
If your cable TV service stops working, please follow the instructions on
this tent card.

WHAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO CONNECT
To hook up your television, VCR, and FM tuner or receiver, you need one
or more of the following items (which are available at the University
Bookstore; the Christiana, Harrington, and Rodney Convenience Markets; or a
local electronics store).

   (1) CABLE WITH CABLE TV-TYPE ("F") FITTING. You need a length of coaxial
cable to connect your equipment to the wall outlet.

   (2) A SPLITTER. The wall outlet to the cable system allows for only 1
item in the television plug. If you wish to install both a TV/VCR set up
and an FM tuner or receiver, you need a splitter to create two plugs.

   (3) MATCHING TRANSFORMER. If your TV or VCR is over 2 years old, it may
have a twin lead VHF fitting with two screw terminals instead of a
single "f" fitting. If so, you need a matching transformer to convert
your two-screw fitting to a single coaxial "f" fitting.

The campus cable system accepts cable-ready TVs and VCRs as well as
limited-channel TVs (Channels 2-13 only). However, please remember that you
will only receive as many channels as your equipment allows. Refer to the
diagrams on the next page to help you connect your equipment.
