ASPIRE Program

   The ASPIRE Program (Academic Support Program Inspiring Renaissance
Education) is a recruitment and retention program in the College of
Education for African-American, Hispanic and Native-American students who
are interested in teaching elementary or special education. ASPIRE students
receive intense academic advising, especially during the freshman and
sophomore years, to assist them in becoming successful in the transition to
college. Academic support programs such as group and individual tutorials,
supplemental instruction and skill mods provide the academic resources for
students to excel. Monthly professional development meetings provide
opportunities for students to meet influential members of the education
community and to hear about issues which are important to professional
