Housing and Dining on Campus
Visitation Policy
All residence halls and apartments permit visitation on a 24-hour-
a-day basis.
The University does not condone members of the opposite sex
staying overnight in the residence halls. Residents may have overnight
guests of the same sex for a period of time not to exceed three
consecutive days. It is the responsibility of the host to ensure that
the presence or behavior of the guests does not infringe on the rights
of his or her roommate or other residents.
The Resident Student Association and the Office of Housing and
Residence Life share the responsibility for the visitation program in
University residence halls.
A. Procedure
At the beginning of each academic year, all resident students will
receive information describing the pros and cons of visitation and
stressing the rights and responsibilities of individuals. Students in
single-sex halls may call for a vote to restrict the hours or days
during which visitation is permitted in their residence hall. If 15
percent of the residents of the building request such a vote, it will
be conducted under the direction of the Office of Housing and
Residence Life and the Resident Student Association. A simple majority
of those who participate in the vote will determine any hour-of-day
restrictions.
B. Individual Responsibilities
1. The host is responsible for the conduct of his or her guest and
must provide an escort at all times.
2. Individual room visitation may not infringe upon the rights of
the roommate(s).
3. It is the responsibility of students to inform their RA's and
hall directors if their rights as roommates or hall residents
have been violated so that they can assist the student in
problem solving.
