Powered Industrial Trucks Safety Program

Powered Industrial Trucks, such as fork trucks, tractors, platform lift trucks, motorized hand trucks (includes motorized pallet-jacks), and other specialized industrial trucks are used at the University to complete many tasks. For example, these units are utilized to move equipment and supplies, lift personnel to elevated areas for painting and repair work and provide access to locations where the use of ladders is impractical. Improper use can result in severe injury. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) requires specialized initial and refresher training on these units, including hands-on performance training. The Department of Occupational Health and Safety provides initial and refresher safety training to its staff and student workers for the safe use of powered industrial trucks on campus.
