Facilities
Safety Committee of the Year
1999/2000

The Facilities Organization was chosen to receive the Safety Committee of the Year by the staff of the Department of Occupational Health and Safety after reviewing their annual report for the fiscal year 1999/2000. They were chosen because of their overall safety committee effort and accomplishments. The accomplishments of the committee are largely in part because of the involvement and commitment of Bob Stozek, Assistant Vice President of Facilities who assumed the Safety Committee Chair position. Some accomplishments of the committee are pointed out below:

Their committee includes representation by all employee groups within Facilities.

  • They kept their activities moving along by meeting once each month.

  • They investigated 100% of the injuries and illnesses reported.

  • They inspected their safety-related equipment on a set schedule.

  • Monthly safety training sessions were instituted.

  • Created nine subcommittees to deal with the following areas:

    Accident Investigation Mobile Equipment
    PPE Safety Procedures
    Contractor Safety Safety Activities
    Safety Audits Electrical Safety
    Safety Manual

  • Committed to reviewing Job Hazard Analysis annually.

  • Developed an illness/injury database and a training database to track trends.

Please join me in congratulating Facilities on setting an outstanding example for the rest of the institution for improving safety.
