10/5/09: Apprenticeship Sites: Skiing

While most of the ICECP coaches travelled to a new region of the US for their apprenticeship, Milos Tomic crossed the Atlantic to work with the US national ski team in Switzerland.

Tomic, the national ski team coach in Serbia, left Delaware for Saas Fee, site of the US national ski team’s training camp. They are preparing for the Audi FIS World Cup opener, which is on Oct 24-25 in Austria.

It’s an exciting and intense time to be with the team, and Tomic is having a great experience. He said he has been able to interact with the coaches and share ideas about training and coaching philosophy.

“The communication with the US national team coaches and athletes is perfect,” Tomic said. He also said that conditions were great and that the team’s training was going well.

“Everybody here is so excited because Bode [Miller] is back,” he said. Miller, a four time world champion, recently returned to the team after skiing independently for two years.

Tomic said that last week’s training sessions included “slalom, progression from free skiing and getting the feeling back through rhythmical sections.” He will work with the team for five more days before returning to the US to go to the Olympic Training Center at Colorado Springs.
