Mike is the Coordinator of Athletics for the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) in Maryland. The HCPSS is recognized by any and all measures as one of the top public school systems in the Nation. The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association identified the HCPSS Interscholastic Athletic Program as a 2012 recipient of the NIAAA Quality Program Award at the Exemplary Level.

A Certified Master Athletic Administrator (CMAA), Mike administers a high school athletic league with 12 schools, 12 Athletics and Activities Managers, 12 Athletic Trainers, over 10,700 student participants, and over 6,000 athletic contests in 27 different sports.

As a National Faculty Member of the NIAAA Leadership Training Institute, Mike serves as a National Instructor and Vice Chair of Leadership Training Course (LTC) 707: Assessment of Interscholastic Athletic Programs and Personnel. As a Maryland State Faculty Member of the NIAAA, Mike serves as a State Instructor in LTC 707; LTC 504-Legal Issues I (Risk Management); LTC 506-Athletic Administration: Legal issues II (Title IX, Sexual Harassment); LTC 508-Legal Issues III (Hazing, ADA, Employment Law).

Since its inception in 2008, Mike has served as a faculty member and tutor for the International Coaching Enrichment and Certification Program (ICECP). This United States Olympic Committee, Olympic Solidarity, and University of Delaware Coaching program certifies Olympic and National team coaches from developing nations from around the world.

Mike’s formal education includes a Bachelor’s of Science from Frostburg State University in Political and Social Science, a Master’s of Liberal Arts from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College), and a Master’s of Education in the Administration of Athletics and Physical Education from McDaniel College.

In addition to his designation as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator, Mike has earned Instructor Level Certifications as a Certified Conditioning Specialist from the National Sports Performance Association (NSPA), Sports First Aid from the American Sport Education Program (ASEP), Fundamentals of Coaching from the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) and is a NFHS Level I Accredited Interscholastic Soccer Coach.

Mike and the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) have worked collaboratively with the University of Delaware’s International Sports Institute a since 2005, assisting the U of DE with groups from Senegal, India, and Palestine. Collaborating with the United States Department of State, Mike and the HCPSS have hosted groups from Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia, Taiwan, and Maldives.

Mike has been an athletic administrator for over 24 years and his coaching career spanned 3 decades, at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. Currently, Mike consults both nationally and internationally as a recognized expert in Student-Centered, Education-Based Athletic Programs.
