Barbara has been a player, coach, National Governing Body Chief Executive and is now an independent consultant within the field of Coach Education in the UK.
She represented her country (England) at cricket from 1993 – 2000. During that time she worked as a Secondary School English Teacher and from 1995 – 2000 ran the Women’s Cricket Association (WCA) and became the first female Senior Executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, when the WCA became part of the overall National Governing Body in 1998.
Since 2000 she has worked independently in coaching and coach education. She gained her Level 4 Cricket Coaching Qualification in 2005 and was the Head Coach of the Women’s Cricket Academy from 2005-2006.
Most of her work has been in cricket and she has been involved in the design and development of cricket’s coach education structure since 2004. In line with the UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate), cricket has a Level 1 -4 structure. She spends most of her time in cricket delivering on the Level 3 programme and mentoring coaches on the 2 year Level 4 programme. She has also been heavily involved in training a tutor workforce in cricket to deliver the Level 1 and 2 courses and in developing a group of Trainers to train the Tutors.
She is an Associate of Apollinaire Consultancy and also of e.t.c. Consultants. With Penny Crisfield and Sarah McQuade, she has developed and delivered coach education programmes in many sports such as, Netball, Volleyball, ECB Cricket Officials, Scottish Swimming, British Equestrian etc.
She is a Trainer for Sports Coach UK (scUK) and is a qualified MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator – personality instrument) practitioner and has recently become an NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Master Practitioner.
She still plays field hockey (occasionally!) and has recently taken up golf (badly!)
