History Major with Concentrations

(36 credit hours)

Concentrations within the History major provide an opportunity for students to pursue a more focused program of study. Those who have clear career objectives or wish to go on to graduate studies may find the concentrations particularly helpful. Concentrations are currently offered in the following fields:
World History, European History, American History.

Major Requirements with Concentrations:

Requirements within the Department:

  1. HIST101 Western Civilization to 1648

  2. History course before 1700. Not including HIST101. Please refer to courses qualifying for Pre-1700 requirement.

  3. HIST268 History Seminar

  4. History course on Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East

  5. Seven courses in the field of emphasis. With written approval of the advisor, a student may take two of these courses outside the Department of History.

  6. History seminar at the 400-level or above (excluding HIST464, HIST491 and HIST493 and Independent Study)

Note: 15 of the History credits must be at the 300 level or above as stated in the requirements for the regular major.

Electives: After required courses are completed, sufficient elective credits must be taken to meet the minimum credit requirement for the degree.
