evaluation - Due Sept. 21 By this time your vague ideas for a paper topic should be starting to come into focus. For this assignment please write a critical evaluation of a website that pertains in some way to your topic. Note: "critical" does not mean negative; it means that you will study and size up the website with a smart and skeptical eye. Using the guidelines from the "Evaluating Web Pages" reading from last week, what can you say about the website you have found? Whose website is this (a person? an institution?) Why does it exist? How good is the information it offers, and how can you tell? Your evaluation should take into account all five of the major sections in "Evaluating Web Pages." In your paper, please be sure to include the URL of the site, but when you are writing, you should not assume that I (your reader) will have seen the site you are writing about. Your paper should include an overview of what the site is, what it contains, and an assessment of the kind (and the quality) of the information it offers. You also might discuss how you would use it as a source or resource for your research. All papers should conform to the following specifications: 250-500
words long (1-2
solid pages)
Margins should be 1" to 1-1/4". A
header on the first page should include (1) your name, (2) the date,
(3) the course name and number. Your paper should also inclue (4) a
title. typed, double-spaced, page-numbered, proofread, and stapled. Papers are due at the beginning of class on Sept. 21. Also, please email me an electronic copy of your paper in addition to the hard copy you submit in class. |
