Questions for Discussion Section on World War I

1.  Considering the documents you have read, what changes in warfare did World War I bring?   How did attitudes toward war, the individual’s role in war, and patriotism change as the war progressed?  Be prepared to cite specific examples from the trench poets, press reports, Henri Barbusse and Ernst Jünger, Madame Lucie, and Vera Brittain.

2.  How did the war change civil society and individuals’ lives?  What evidence from Madame Lucie and Vera Brittain can we use to develop this discussion?
