John J. Hurt teaches the history of seventeenth-century France, the French Revolution and Napoleon, military history, and World War II in Europe. He is the author of Louis XIV and the Parlements: the Assertion of Royal Authority, Manchester University Press, 2002. He graduated with majors in History and French from Mercer University (1960) and took his
graduate degrees in History from the University of North
Carolina-Chapel Hill (1962, 1970). He began serving as chair of the Department of History in 2008.
