John Hurt specializes in the history of seventeenth-century France and, more generally, in the Old Regime. He also teaches Western Civilization, French Revolution and Napoleon, and Military History. He is the author of Louis XIV and the Parlements: the Assertion of Royal Authority, Manchester University Press, 2002. He graduated with majors in History and French from Mercer University (1960) and took his graduate degrees in History from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (1962, 1970).
