Carole Haber specializes in American medical and social history, with particular interests in aging and death in the nineteenth century. She received her B.A. in History from Washington University in St. Louis in 1973, and her Ph.D. in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. Her books include Beyond Sixty-Five: The Dilemma of Old Age in Americas Past ; Old Age and the Search for Security ; Key Words in Sociocultural Gerontology . She is currently involved in two projects: a study of changing medical and cultural beliefs about Alzheimers disease and senile dementia, and an exploration of the medicalization of death in America at the turn of the twentieth century.
