Dr. Ralph received his B.A. from Yale Unversity in 1977 (American Studies with a concentration in History of American Music), his M.A. and Ph.D. from University of Delaware in 1997 and 2005 (major field: History of the United States; minor field: History of Material Culture; dissertation: A Nation in Arms: The Provision of Arms to Englishmen in Europe and North America). He has taught at the University of Delaware, Washington College, Penn State/Brandywine and Salisbury University. His research is in the field of the history of firearms manufacture, ownership and use; the Maryland Historical Magazine has published his work and he is revising for publication a book on firearms management in seventeenth-century Maryland.
