John Davies received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Delaware in 2009. In his classes, students learn to think historically by developing critical thinking skills through the study of racial, ethnic, and religious identities and their influence on political, social, and economic developments. His research analyzes the experiences of black refugees from the Haitian Revolution and their interactions with blacks and whites in the United States. He has had an article based on his research published in the Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, and will have an essay appearing in a forthcoming collected volume titled Commodification, Community, and Comparison in Slave Studies, to be published by LSU Press.
