Requirements for Specific HESC Majors
Beginning in Fall 2008, changes have been made in the requirements needed for specific HESC majors. Below you will find the list of requirements – by major. All HESC courses listed below are open to all University students through UDSIS.

- Minimum overall cumulative index of 2.5 for all undergraduate course work completed at the University of Delaware.
- Complete hours of direct observation in the University of Delaware athletic training room under the supervision of the athletic training faculty.
- Three letters of recommendation. Students must obtain the University of Delaware Athletic Training Education Program Admission Recommendation Form from the Director of the Program.
- Completion of the Athletic Competencies Checklist for direct observation students.
- Successful interview with the Athletic Training Education Program Faculty.
- Submission of a written essay.
- Online applications are accepted once a year only – June 1 st.
MAJOR: EXERCISE SCIENCE – NON RESTRICTED MAJOR
Biomechanics/Motor Control and Exercise Physiology
- 2.0 cumulative GPA.
- Apply online at any time once the 2.0 GPA has been established.
MAJOR: HEALTH BEHAVIOR SCIENCE – NON RESTRICTED MAJOR
- 2.0 cumulative GPA.
- Apply online at any time once the 2.0 GPA has been established.
MAJOR: HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION – RESTRICTED MAJOR
Successful completion of the following courses: HESC 140, HESC 155, HESC 141, HESC 145, HESC 220, and HESC 230 (these courses are generally taught in fall OR spring only. Please refer to checksheet/program of study for this information.)
Also required for admission to a teacher education program:
- Minimal cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and major GPA of 2.75.
- Completed PRAXIS I with a passing score prior to being admitted to the major.
- Online acceptance of the Professional Dispositions.
- Submission of a satisfactory Introductory Professional Portfolio (see Program Director for Details).
- Acceptance into the program is based upon the stated criteria. Offers of admission into the Health and Physical Education Teacher Education Program are presented to those students who have demonstrated a commitment to teaching.
- Online applications are accepted once a year ONLY – June 1 st.
MAJOR: SPORT MANAGEMENT – RESTRICTED MAJOR
- Successful completion of the following courses: HESC 202, ENGL 110, MATH, and Psychology or Sociology.
- Minimum 2.7 GPA.
- Completion of appropriate application with essay.
- Offers of admission into Sport Management are presented to those students who have demonstrated an aptitude and commitment to this field.
- Online applications are accepted once a year ONLY – June 1 st.
