The Biomechanics Lab is a state of the art facility that is equipped for the study of human motion (kinematics) and the underlying forces and torques that causes it (kinetics). The primary technology in this facility is a twelve-camera motion capture system and a pair of force platforms. In addition to these systems, the lab is equipped for electromyography, acclelerometry and pressure measurement. Within our highly collaborative team, this facility has supported research interests not only in Biomechanics, but also Motor Control, Physiology and Sports Medicine. Experiments have been conducted on walking, running, jumping, throwing, ankle motion in unstable landings, jumps and landings performed by elite figure skaters, amputee locomotion, the energetic cost of gait in patient populations and numerous other topics. This lab is also proud of its contributions to the advancement of biomechanical techniques with the continued development of motion analysis software, evaluation of marker placements for the study of scapular motion, and the methods to correctly estimate the location of joint centers in 3-D.
