Graduate Student Financial Assistance Information

Each year a limited number of teaching assistantships, research assistantships, fellowships, and tuition scholarships are awarded to qualified new students. To be eligible for consideration for one of these awards, applicants must submit acceptable GRE scores and be officially admitted to one of the department’s graduate programs by March 1st. These types of awards are based on academic merit and not on financial need. These awards usually provide a stipend and tuition scholarship. For the 2006-2007 academic year, the stipend rate for assistantships and fellowships will be $13,000. The teaching and research assistantships require approximately 20 hours of work per week. These awards may be renewed pending favorable evaluations and academic performance. The university also designates a number of Presidential Fellowships for minority students.

Applicants may contact the Office of Financial Aid for information about student loans. In addition, graduate students are eligible to apply for positions as Residence Hall Directors by contacting the Director of Housing and Residence Life. There are also degree-related employment opportunities available in conjunction with Intercollegiate Athletics and some of the local clinical settings.
