Exercise Science
The Exercise Science major is designed for students who are interested in the scientific aspects of exercise and sport. Students, in the pursuit of this major, choose a concentration in Biomechanics or Exercise Physiology. Each concentration features a strong base of general education courses in English, communication, humanities, mathematics, and social and natural sciences.
Interest Groups: Entering freshmen and transfer students seeking admission into Exercise Science are admitted to “Exercise Science Interest”. Freshmen participating in an interest group are eligible to apply for admission to one of these majors at the end of the freshman year.
- Biomechanics Those students choosing a Biomechanics concentration develop a fundamental understanding of the mechanics of the human body and its movements. This concentration prepares students for professional positions in a Gait Analysis Laboratory or for graduate study in Physical or Occupational Therapy, Medicine, or a related field of Exercise Science.
- Exercise Physiology This program studies the integration of the body’s physiological systems in the performance of exercise, work, and sport activities. This concentration prepares students to pursue advanced degrees in Physical or Occupational Therapy, Medicine, graduate programs in the Sports Medicine/Sport Science field, including Cardiac Rehabilitation.
