Graduation ceremonies this week Friday and Saturday for the 14 UD ATEP seniors! Congrats!

Faculty/staff/graduate students/alumni gathered with UD ATEP seniors on Thursday 5/16/13 to celebrate their 4 years of contributions to the ATEP. Here is a photo taken on the steps of the Deer Park Tavern

UD ATEP senior students were recognized at today's end-of-the-year meeting with an outstanding slide show put together by SATC historian Cat Horstmann. Click here to see the show.

UD ATEP junior Mary Mahon secured a off-campus clinical rotation at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC this semester. She is pictured here just over the left shoulder of Prince Harry on his visit with the wounded US servicemen being rehabilitated there. Nice work Mary.

Congratulations to UD ATEP doctoral student Andrea Di Trani who has been selected to receive the NATA Research & Education Foundation Doctoral Student Scholarship. She will be honored at the Pinky Newell Scholarship & Leadership Breakfast at the NATA Convention in Las Vegas on Thursday June 27, 2013.

Congratulations to UD ATEP sophomore student Josh Evans who has secured a summer internship with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL.

SATC Sponsored "Head Games" video presentation on Thursday March 21. 2014 beginning at 6:30 pm in Smith Hall 120. Dr. Kathleen O'Brien from AI duPont Hospital for Children will be speaking after the presentation of the video.

Prominent California neurosurgeon and UD graduate (Class of 1992) Dr. Scott Berta spoke to a group of UD athletic training students on Friday March 15, 2013 in the Bob Carpenter Center. Dr. Berta's shared his experiences working with some high-profile athletes with spine injuries, as well as reinforce the importance of athletic trainers and their role in the acute management of spinal cord trauma. UD Athletic Training Interest (ATI) students Matt Armistead and Tiana McKim prior to the start of the DIAA Girl's Basketball Championship game held at the BCC. UD athletic training students assisted with this event as a fund raiser for SATC.

March is National Athletic Training Month "Every Body Needs an Athletic Trainer". Members of UD's SATC are arranging the display case inside the entrance way to McDowell Hall on UD's campus. Stop by and check it out! Special thanks to Stephanie Minite, Casey Niemela, Diamond O'Donovan, Kate Sheehan, and Leigh Waters for their efforts.

Congrats to UD ATEP undergraduate student (Shirleeah Fayson) and graduate students (Peter Braun and Alan Needle) all of whom have been selected as finalists in the NATA Research and Education Foundation abstract award category for presentations to be made at the NATA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV June 25-27, 2013.

UD junior athletic training student Devon Leahy spent the winter semester on a mission trip to South Africa where she volunteered through Cross Cultural Solutions and was placed at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. While there she worked in the adolescent and children wards helping kids with HIV, TB, diabetes, cancer, gastroentritis and motor vehicle survivors. UD's Athletic Training Research Lab played host to a group of students from UD ATEP alumnus Chris Morrow's anatomy class at the Tower Hill School on Monday February 10, 2013. Students were able to experience some hands-on demonstrations of a variety of research equipment and techniques. Congrats to UD ATEP senior Michele Hudgins on her acceptance into the CAATE accredited graduate athletic training program at Old Dominion University. She begins her studies there in the Fall 2013!

Congrats to UD ATEP senior Diamond O'Donovan who has accepted a graduate assistant athletic trainer position at the University of Kentucky beginning Fall 2013.

Congrats to UD ATEP senior Casey Niemela who has accepted a graduate assistant athletic trainer position beginning next Fall 2013 at the University of South Carolina.

Congrats to UD ATEP senior Leigh Waters who has accepted a graduate assistant athletic trainer position beginning next Fall 2013 at the University of Alabama.

Please join me in congratulating UD ATEP senior student Kate Zimmerman whose 3 rd place finish in the EATA Quiz Bowl competition last week Friday in Buffalo, NY qualifies her for a trip to Las Vegas (June 2013) to represent NATA District II in the national competition!  This is great exposure and recognition for UD’s ATEP!

Kate, in her role on the EATA Student Delegation, was also instrumental in chairing thisyear’s EATA Student Forum and event attended by over 250 students from NATA’s Districts I and II ---- nice work Kate!

SATC Officers and UD ATEP seniors Casey Niemela (L) and Deanna Lapp (R) stopped by with the $400.00 in Wal-Mart gift cards to the office of the DE Adopt-a-Family. The program is extremely grateful for the generosity of the faculty/staff/students of UD ATEP!

SATC held their annual Holiday Banquet on Thursday 12/6/12 in the Bob Carpenter Club. The club awarded it first ever SATC Student-Athlete Award to senior women's soccer player Polly Reinicker. Congrats to UD AT junior Stephen Donald on being awarded a First Step grant from the College of Health Sciences for his FitTen Program idea to build a healthy liftestyle for middle school students in his hometown.

Congrats to sophomore UD athletic training student Kimmie Faucher who has been sleceted to represent the State of DE on the EATA Student Delegate Panel beginning in 2013.

Congrats to sophomore AT student Chris Marroquin who has been offered a summer internship with the NFL's Buffalo Bills beginning Summer 2013.

SATC welcomed Dr. Alfred Atanda an orthopedic surgeon from AU duPont Hospital for Children on Wednesday 10/24/12 to their monthly meeting. Dr. Atanda spoke to the club members abour OCD lesions in the elbow and shared his experiences working with AI's Sports Medicine Program. Congrats to to ATI students Matt Armistead and Kayla Albertella who have been crowned this year's taping contest winners. The ankle taping competetion was held this week during the ATI In-Services. Nice job to all participants!

The Delaware Athletic Trainers' Association has chosen the following UD ATEP students to represent the State of Delaware at two very important and exciting leadership opportunities in 2013:

Taking part in the NATA iLEAD Conference 1/11-1/12/13 will be Casey Niemela (senior) and Mikela Potrako (sophomore), while the following athletic training students will be involved in the NATA's "Hit the Hill" Day February 24-25, 2013: Nick Clark (junior), Chris Marroquin (sophomore) and Matt Piha (sophomore). Nice work to all!

AT senior students Megumi Yoshigai and Kate Zimmerman spent the afternoon of Tuesday 9/25/12 working with coaches at the Delaware School for the Deaf helping them to refine their athletic taping skills. Megumi and Kate are pictured here with those coaches. Nice work ladies!

AT senior student Leeah Fayson was able to travel as a research assistant this past summer assisting with data collection on the "JUMP ACL Project". Her travels took her to both the US Military Academy in West Point, NY and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. Here Leeah is pictured with her colleagues Haley Sparks (Brown University) and Michelle Mudge (University of North Carolina). Her research was part of the requirements for the Ronald McNair Rsearch Program that Leeah has been a part of since her sophomore year. Nice work!

Congratulations to Laura (Miller) McDonald who successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on Friday 9/7/12. The title of Dr. McDonald's dissertation was BIOMECHANICAL VARIABILITY IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGIATE SOFTBALL PITCHERS: A WITHIN- AND BETWEEN-PITCH TYPE COMPARISON. UD Football Staff athletic trainers and athletic training students took it upon themselves to create a "Delaware Athletic Training Dare to be There" poster to spotlight there contributions to the success of UD athletics.

Congrats to UD graduate students Stephanie Segulin who was awarded a Master's Research Grant from the NATA Research Foundation.

Congrats to UD ATEP seniors Casey Niemela and Sarah Neal who were awarded a prestigious Ruth E. McNeal Health Professions Scholarship from the University of Delaware for the 2012-13 school year!

Congrats to Peter Braun who has successfully defended his master's thesis titled " OCULOMOTOR FUNCTION IN COLLEGIATE STUDENT-ATHLETES WITH A PREVIOUS HISTORY OF SPORT-RELATED CONCUSSION.". Peter is pictured here with his thesis committee members Drs. Kaminski, Swanik, and Knight.
