The department has three graduate programs: |
- The M.A. in Geography is primarily focused on human geography, but students have also undertaken projects in geography education or environment and society.
- The M.S. in Geography is focused on climatology, land-surface processes and cold regions research. In both masters programs, an important purpose is to learn research techniques, such as GIS, remote sensing, and spatial data handling.
- The Ph.D. in Geography serves as the umbrella degree for advanced research over the entire field of physical geography and related geographic methods, and has been very successful in placing students in academic positions, as well as in research positions within government and the private sector.

Master's title: India's 'Garden City'? Bangalore's Disappearing Greenbelt: Green to Gone
Completed: Winter 2009
|
With a focus on society-environment interactions, my master's thesis research studied the rapid urbanization of Bangalore, India over the past 30 years. The city's phenomenal physical and economic growth, fueled by a growing information technology industry, has increased environmental degradation. By traveling to Bangalore and studying the city's greenbelt, I was able to measure the decline of the green, open space and the emergence of large corporate parks for multi-national corporations in its place.
Upon completion of my master's degree under the guidance of Dr. Yda Schreuder, I began my Ph.D. at the University of Delaware in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. It is my goal to become a professor following my education at UD. |
