Course Description
This course investigates the use of satellites to study our climate system.  The first part of the course covers the fundamental principles of remote sensing and the radiative transfer equation, satellites and sensors collecting climatic information, and interpretation and enhancement of satellite imagery.  The remainder of the course examines data analysis techniques to retrieve climate information of interest to the class such as surface albedo, vegetation condition, atmospheric moisture, precipitation, surface temperature, and/or soil moisture.   This course is taught every other fall semester during odd years. The prerequisite for the course is Geography 412 Physical Climatology or equivalent course.
