Course
Summary
Geog471/671 expands upon concepts and principles
introduced
in the Geog372 Introduction to GIS course and provides hands on
experience in the use of GIS software. More specifically, the
course examines geographic information, the principles of geographic
information science, and the techniques to collect, manage, analysis
and display geographic data effectively and efficiently.
Understanding the imprecision and uncertainty in geographic
information and GIS-based representations are also discussed, as well
as techniques for handling uncertainty in GIS. Various application
areas are demonstrated throughout the semester along with specific
problem solving exercises to illustrate the use of GIS to solve real
world problems. Customizatio and automating geoprocessing are emphasized along with developing web mapping applications. ESRI's suite of software packages are used in
this course.
