The DGA consists of K-12 teachers, higher education professionals, professional geographers, and students. We work towards improving Geography education throughout the state of Delaware by offering materials for classroom use and many professional development opportunities. Join the DGA today!
The DGA believes that geography education is critical to the development of students' critical thinking skills, as well as deepening their understanding of the world. As globalization continues to drive economics, politics, and pop culture, it is critical for every American student to understand the many different cultures of the world. DE students are tested in social studies skills in grades 4, 6, 8, and 11. On each of these tests, geographic knowledge makes up approximately 25% of the exam. Due to this, the DGA works toward implementing geography courses in every school district throughout Delaware. Further, the DGA supports the training of high school teachers in the area of AP Human Geography. If you are interested in implementing an AP Human Geography course at your school, follow these suggestions. For more information about geography education in Delaware, please review our "State of Geography Education in Delaware" page.
The DGA receives funds from the National Geographic Education Foundation.
