SOURCE OF DATA - SUSSEX COUNTY, DELAWARE
ALL TABULAR DATA WAS DOWNLOADED FROM THE NATIONAL SOIL INFORMATION SYSTEM (NASIS) DATABASE ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2002. SOME SMALL DIFFERENCES MAY OCCUR IN PRIOR DOWNLOADS AND/OR AFTER THIS POSTED DATE.
Major fieldwork for this soil survey was completed in the period 1944-1970 Soil names and descriptions were approved in 1971. Unless otherwise indicated, statements in the publication refer to conditions in the county in 1971. This survey was made cooperatively by the the Soil Conservation Service (now the Natural Resources Conservation Service) and the Delaware Agricultural Experiment Station. This survey is part of the technical assistance furnished to the Sussex County Soil and Water Conservation DistrictSource Map - Soil maps compiled in 1971 on 1970 aerial photographs by Cartographic Division, Soil Conservation Service, USDA. Controlled mosaic based on Delaware coordinate system, Lambert conformal conic projection, 1927 North American datum. Soil maps in the survey may be copied without permission. WARNING: Enlargement of these maps, however, could cause misinterpretation of the detail of mapping. If enlarged, maps do not show the small areas of contrasting soils that could have been shown at a larger scale.
Source Map Scale - 1:20000 NAPP, Photo Year 1970.
Drainage and other features - Drainage and cultural features can be found in the Special Symbols Legend.
Interpretive Ratings
Rating Class Terms - Rating classes are expressed in the tables in terms that indicate the extent to which the soils are limited by all of the soil features that affect a specified use or in terms that indicate the suitability of the soils for the use. Thus, the tables may show limitation classes or suitability classes. Terms for the limitation classes are not limited, slightly limited, somewhat limited, and very limited. The suitability ratings are expressed as well suited, moderately well suited, poorly suited, and unsuited or as good, fair, and poor.
Numerical Ratings - Numerical ratings in the tables indicate the relative severity of individual limitations. The ratings are shown as decimal fractions ranging from 0.00 to 1.00. They indicate gradations between the point at which a soil feature has the greatest negative impact on the use and the point at which the soil feature is not a limitation. The limitations appear in order from the most limiting to the least limiting. Thus, if more than one limitation is identified, the most severe limitation is listed first and the least severe one is listed last. For more detailed explanation, see criteria for the respective table.
Special Interpretation List: The Hydrologic Soil Groups will be updated annually. These ratings are found in the Water Features table of this soil survey.
