Policy Name: Possession and Use of Firearms on University Property

  1. PURPOSE

    To safeguard the welfare of the University Community and the general public and to minimize the University's liability in case of accidents.

  2. POLICY

    The possession or use of any firearm for the purpose of hunting or any other unauthorized activity is strictly prohibited.

    Severe disciplinary action up to and including termination will be taken against any employee discovered in possession of an unauthorized firearm* or similar weapon on University property.

    The Director of Public Safety or his designee shall be responsible for the prior review and approval of any requests for authorization.

    * A firearm is any weapon from which a shot, projectile, or other object may be discharged by force, whether operable or inoperable, loaded or unloaded.
