Policy Name: Materials that could Present an Imminent Danger to Health and Safety

PURPOSE
To control the possession of materials that could present an imminent danger to the life and health of the University community.

POLICY
The possession of hazardous material as defined below shall require the approval of the appropriate dean, director, chairperson, or administrator, and the Director, Department of Occupational Health and Safety:

Fire Hazards - Any situation, process, material or condition which, on the basis of applicable data, may cause a fire, explosion or provide a ready fuel supply to augment the spread or intensity of the fire or explosion and which poses a threat to life and/or property

Explosive Materials - Explosives, blasting agents, water jets, detonators and ammunition.

Flammable and combustible liquids.

Gases - flammable, combustible, toxic and oxidizers.

Combustible metals.

Toxins and other toxic materials.

Any items violating the current policies established by Residence Life.
Material possessed or found in violation of this policy shall be removed in accordance with University Removal of Dangerous Material-Policy 7-10.
This policy does not apply to use of hazardous material in research and development, teaching, and maintenance and construction activities provided the hazardous material is under the control of a technically qualified individual.
The possession of radioactive material shall be in accordance with Radioactive Material and Machines Capable of Producing Ionizing Radiation-University Policy 7-9.
