Policy Number: 4-76
Policy Name: SOCIAL SECURITY
Date: 1997
POLICY
All eligible employees participate in the Federal Social Security Program. The cost to the individual, matched by the University, is set by federal law as a percentage of salary up to the designated wage base. A smaller percentage for FICA-Medicare, which is presently on unlimited salary, is also required. These deductions are taken automatically from each paycheck. In addition to retirement, disability, and survivor benefits, the Social Security Program provides Medicare hospital and medical- surgical benefits.
PROCEDURE
Employees should contact their regional Social Security three months prior to retirement to apply for benefits.
