Policy Name: DISABILITY INCOME (State Pension Plan)
Date: December 1998

The State of Delaware Pension Plan provides disability income to participants who qualify with at least five years of service under the Plan at the time disability begins. Benefits are based on average salary (3 years) and total service in accordance with the formula stated in Chapter 55, Title 29, Delaware Code.

It is University policy to continue salary during waiting periods for disability income to begin. See "DISABILITY (TOTAL) BENEFITS SALARY CONTINUATION" policy for details.

Individuals should advise their supervisors if unable to work due to illness or injury and provide medical certification of their disabling condition. The Supervisor or Employee contacts the Benefits Office who is responsible for completing the application and submitting all documents to the Office of Pensions in Dover.
