Official descriptions for professional and salaried positions are kept in the Classification and Compensation unit of the Office of Human Resources. Salaried staff position descriptions can also be viewed on the web page of the Classification and Compensation Unit.
An employee or a supervisor/department head may request an audit of an incumbent’s position. All requests for audit require the approval of the appropriate college dean or vice president. Once approval is obtained, a “Request for Classification form” must be completed and submitted to the Classification and Compensation Office. A representative of the office will conduct an interview with the incumbent and/or supervisor to review job responsibilities prior to making a written determination.
If the supervisor/department head is not satisfied with the determination of the Classification and Compensation Office, a written appeal may be submitted to the Assistant Vice President for Labor Relations and Human Resources within ten (10) working days of the determination date. The written statement should include detailed reason(s) for the appeal. The Assistant Vice President for Labor Relations and Human Resources will render a written decision within twenty (20) working days after the filing of the appeal. A vice president, dean or administrative head may appeal the decision of the Assistant Vice President for Labor Relations and Human Resources to the Vice President for Administration within seven (7) working days.
A career ladder may be approved by the Vice President for Administration for a class of positions in one or more departments. Where a career ladder is in place, the classification audit procedure is not applicable.
