  1. PURPOSE

    To provide temporary housing for new University employees to facilitate their relocation to the University area.

  2. REFERENCE

  3. POLICY

    1. A University employee who has not been employed more than four months is eligible for first consideration for University rental housing. Other employees may apply, but their applications will only be considered if there are vacancies after newer employees have been accommodated.

    2. Requests for University rental houses are to be made to the Rental Housing Office. Houses are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis with special consideration being given for such things as family size, date of availability, and other special needs.

    3. Typically, a rental unit lease is for one year starting July 1. If the start date is after July 1, the lease will still end June 30. A lease may be renewed once.

    4. The tenant is held responsible for the lease payments, which shall be made through payroll deduction, throughout the duration of the lease agreement.

    5. The tenant is responsible for utilities, grounds care and snow removal. Where a unit is divided into apartments and has a common meter for utilities, the assignment of these costs and responsibilities will be apportioned to the occupants and included in the rental fee. Charges for water used in excess of the minimum billing amount will be billed to the occupant.

    6. Security deposits are required on all rental units. This amount will equal one month's rent, and payment of this deposit is due on or before occupancy. All units must be inspected after vacating, and charges for damages beyond normal wear and tear or special cleaning will be deducted from the security deposit. If damages exceed the security deposit, the tenant will be charged the additional sum.

    7. Fuel oil tanks are filled upon occupancy and will be filled upon vacating at tenant's expense.

    8. Requests for normal maintenance repairs or emergency repairs should be directed to the Facilities service desk, 831-1141. Cost of repairs requested due to neglect or abuse will be borne by the tenant.
