Course Attendance, Behavior,
Dress and Late Work Policies
My signature below acknowledges that I have read and accept course attendance, behavior, dress and late work policies for the courses offered as part of the Australia 2000 Winter Session Program and have retained a copy of this form for myself. I understand that the nature of the Australia program is such that timely, appropriate participation in all elements by all students is essential to the program’s success and that the following policies will apply to me.
1. On-time attendance is required
for all scheduled program functions, including informational meetings,
course meetings, site visits, and guest speakers both in Australia and
at the University prior to departure.
a. Only severe illness or a death in the immediate family, proof
of both of which will be required, constitute acceptable reasons for an
unanticipated absence.
b. Hangovers or other illnesses resulting from excessive consumption
of alcohol will not result in excused absences.
c. Anticipated, unavoidable absences may be approved, but only in
advance, by the faculty members in rare cases.
d. The penalty for each unexcused absence is a one letter grade reduction
in a course.
e. The penalty for each late arrival is one-third of a letter grade
reduction in a course (excessive lateness will be counted as an unexcused
absence).
2. Polite behavior (being awake, attentive and alert) is required when attending all program functions. The penalty for impolite behavior may include being asked to leave the lecture or visit with a one letter grade reduction in a course or it may be one-third of a letter grade reduction in a course grade for less offensive behavior.
3. Everywhere we go and every
time we meet with anyone, we will be representing the University of Delaware.
Appropriate dress is required for all program visits to firms, institutions
and agencies and at formal receptions and meals with outside individuals.
a. Appropriate dress will include:
1. For males: non-knit shirts with collars, long pants (not jeans),
socks and nice shoes (not athletic shoes). Also bring a sport coat and
tie for more formal occasions.
2. For females: skirts and blouses, dresses, or nice slacks (not
jeans) with nice shoes (not athletic shoes). Also bring a more dressy outfit
for more formal occasions.
3. If a lower degree of dress is appropriate because of the weather
or the destination or the individuals we will be with, you will be told.
b. The penalty for inappropriate dress may be exclusion from attendance
at the lecture or visit with a one letter grade reduction in a course or
it may be one-third of a
letter grade reduction in a course for less egregious violations of the
standards.
4. On-time submission of all assigned work to be handed in is required. The penalty for late submission of assigned work is one letter grade on the assignment for each day it is late.
5. Until the program departure for Australia on December 29, communications regarding program and course assignments and requirements will be largely by e-mail. All new or changed assignments, requirements, or notices regarding meetings will be sent by e-mail at least 48 hours prior to a meeting or deadline for response. Failure to comply with a course requirement or to attend a course meeting because e-mail has not been read in more than 48 hours will result in penalties.
I acknowledge that I have read and accept the course attendance, behavior, dress and late work policies for the courses offered as part of the Australia 2000 Winter Session Program and have retained a copy of this form for myself.
