The Americans with Disabilities Office (ADA)
serves as a resource for University of Delaware students, faculty,
staff, and visitors with disabilities. The ADA office assists students
with disabilities so that they can participate in all aspects of
campus life, and provides support for faculty and staff with disabilities
so that they may
contribute their talents to the University workforce. The office assists visitors
with disabilities so that they may enjoy the wide variety of activities
taking place at the University of Delaware. A disability caucus
comprised of individuals from various departments also advises
the
University of disability issues.

Faculty
and Staff Assistance Program

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Office provides
assessment, counseling and referral services for faculty and staff.
Issues such as alcohol and drug abuse, personal and interpersonal
difficulties, handling stress, depression and anxiety, coping with
loss and dealing with difficult work relationships are addressed
in workshops, as well as individual and group sessions. The Office
also provides mediation services for academic departments and administrative
units in instances where there is a need for assistance to sustain
a productive work environment.

Benefits
Services
Administers a comprehensive benefits
program for University faculty, staff and retirees. The University's
Flexible Benefits Program includes medical (Comparison of
Health Plans, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Blue Care and Aetna) dental, life and disability insurance, as well
as the option for employees to participate in Flexible Spending
Accounts. Other major programs include retirement plans (Fidelity,
TIAA-CREF, and State Pension) and educational benefits. The
Office also provides pre-retirement counseling services and
handles record keeping for the Employee Wellness Program.

Payroll and Systems Administration is responsible for recording
all personnel actions at the University, such as hiring, promotion,
leaves, sabbaticals, reclassifications and resignations and ensuring
that these actions adhere to University policies.

Recruitment
and Employment
Recruitment and Employment coordinates and provides support to the campus community with their recruiting and hiring needs. The office provides support for the recruitment web process and monitors hiring and promotional activity to insure affirmative action compliance. Searches for salaried and hourly staff vacancies are centralized within the Recruitment and Employment Office. The office monitors the recruitment of academic and professional positions which are conducted at the college/departmental level. The office serves as a liaison with advertising agency and temporary staffing agency to support the needs of the University community. The office also facilitates New Employee Orientation.

Training
and Career Development
Training and Career Development assists all campus units and their employees with matters pertaining to organizational training, employee development, and program design. Individual counseling is available for employees regarding career development and resume preparation. The office administers the HR Liaison breakfasts, Service and United Way programs and coordinates the activities of the Professional, Salaried Staff, Human Resources Advisory Councils. The office also manages the Performance Appraisal process for salaried and professional staff.

Labor Relations

The Office of Labor Relations promotes fair
and stable labor relations. Working principally with professional,
salaried and hourly staff, the Office handles professional and salaried
staff grievances; and helps mid- and senior-level managers better
understand how to deal effectively with employees. The Office also
is responsible for the administration of the University's AFSCME
contracts with hourly and skilled craft employees, unemployment
and worker's compensation, Family Medical Leave Act, and other labor
laws.
