to New York City to observe the

efforts underway in response to the

tragic attack on the World Trade

December Workshops

In December, Disaster Research

Center Director Kathleen Tierney

and DRC Research Coordinator

James Kendra participated in a

workshop entitled "Learning from

Urban Disasters: National Science

Foundation (NSF) Response and

Opportunities for Future Research."

The workshop was organized by the

National Science Foundation and

the Institute for Civil Infrastructure

Systems at New York University.

The meeting was attended by

social science and engineering

researchers who have received NSF

quick-response and exploratory

grants to study various aspects of

the World Trade Center attack. The

goals of the workshop were to

review preliminary research findings

and to set an agenda for further

research.
