Richard Rotanz
Commissioner Richard (Rich) Rotanz has recently developed the first Office of Emergency Management for Nassau County, NY, responsible for the protection of 2 million people. In parallel, Richie is also developing a Masters Degree program for Adelphi University with previous experience of co-designing John Jay College’s program for Emergency Management. Previous to his current position Richie was formerly the Deputy Director for New York City ‘s Office of Emergency Management responsible for establishing response plans, and the management of the City’s Emergency Operation Center (2000 – 2002). During his tenure at NYC OEM, Richie had the responsibility for the evacuation of, the reconstitution of, and the operation of the City’s (EOC) during the WTC attack. Richie has over thirty years in the fire service, 25 of with FDNY, nursing and surveying. He resides in Setauket Long Island with his wife Patricia and their children.
