Jennifer Wilson
Jennifer Wilson is currently an assistant professor and co-director of the
Emergency Management Program at North Dakota State University. Previously,
she was in senior management at the Florida Division of Emergency Management
where she helped develop long-range program plans and budget justifications
for the Division, coordinated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency
on state programmatic grants and capability assessments, and contributed
to many special projects of the Director including producing written testimony
for the Florida Governor. As the Accreditation Manager, she was responsible
for the state accreditation process as well as agency policy and strategic
management and planning. In addition, she provided expertise and coordination
to developing, new, and existing emergency management degree programs at
Florida universities and colleges as the Higher Education Coordinator. She
received her doctorate degree in Sociology from Florida International University.
Her areas of research interest include the professionalization of emergency
management and social vulnerability to disasters. She has extensive disaster
research experience, i.e., Loma Prieta earthquake and Central Florida tornadoes,
resulting in publications and presentations in national and international
forums.
