Abstract: In this article, we consider the structure and functions of nonprofit and nongovernmental general hospitals. After presenting a composite picture of one, we set forth the typical kind of emergency situation in which such a hospital is likely to find itself during a disaster. The rest of the article discusses in a highly selective fashion some major disaster problems of general hospitals.
