Bio

Maggie Nelan is PhD student in Sociology at the University of Delaware.  She graduated from the University of Texas – Austin in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Religious Studies, and in 2011 she graduated with her Masters in Sociology from the University of Texas – El Paso.

For her Master’s Thesis, Maggie researched the volunteer response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.  She specifically focused on their health behaviors, risk behaviors and relationships to the Haitian community during their volunteer service. 

Her current esearch interests are disaster response, disaster volunteers and environmental sociology.
