Recruitment and Selection
Strategies
Ten undergraduate
students will be selected, each year, as trainees for the DRC-REU
Program. Students will be recruited at the national level, including
institutions of higher education in the United States and Puerto
Rico . An informational letter and application form describing
the REU Program will be developed and distributed to social
science students and faculty in targeted institutions throughout
the United States . In order to ensure that we obtain applications
from institutions with a high enrollment of minority students
and from universities where undergraduate students are not actively
exposed to research, we have identified a number of schools
from which we will actively recruit undergraduate students generally
and minorities and women in particular. Also, we will identify
one or more faculty members in these institutions to serve as
our liaisons in that particular institution, helping to disseminate
information on the DRC-REU Program and identifying potential
candidates for the program. Additionally, we will request that
targeted department chairs announce the DRC-REU Program to their
faculty and students. DRC's website will also provide detailed
information on the REU Program, including application materials.
Student Selection
