Brief BIO
As a seven year Emergency Preparedness Planner for New Castle County, I responded to many emergencies in the State of Delaware including the President’s Day blizzard (February 2003), Flooding from Tropical Storm Henri (09/15/2003), Hurricane Isabel (09/18/2003) and a tornado from remnants of Hurricane Jeanne (09/28/2004). Delaware was also integral in the housing of over 500 displaced New Orleans residents in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Working for the American Red Cross brought me into direct care for individuals impacted by disaster, such as house fires and flooding; nothing was more rewarding. Now that I am back at UD, I have the challenge of preparing a multi-campus University for emergencies ranging from natural disasters to biological outbreaks, which we faced in April 2009 with the first collegiate H1N1 outbreak in the country.
