As part of the career decision-making process, you will learn about occupations, salaries, job descriptions, training and education required, and the economic outlook for many occupations.  Compare this information with what you have determined to be important to you in Learning about Yourself.

Here are some actions you can take:

  • Visit the Richard Sharf Career Library in the Center for Counseling and Student Development, where you will find books and pamphlets on a wide variety of careers and graduate and undergraduate school opportunities.
  • Search web sites on graduate schools and undergraduate schools
  • Look at web sites containing career information
  • Visit the Career Resource Center in the Bank of America Career Services Center (401 Academy Street)
  • Interview people working in careers of interest
  • Talk with faculty
  • Meet with a professional at the Center for Counseling and Student Development
  • Take academic courses related to careers of interest
  • Attend professional club meetings
  • Use computer assisted programs that provide career information (e.g., Occupational Outlook Handbook, O*NET)

Remember:  Career exploration and development is a very complex process.  You may need assistance exploring any of these pieces and/or integrating all of this information and figuring out how it relates to majors and careers.  Please contact CCSD to schedule an appointment for further assistance.
