Counseling and Psychiatry
Structured groups tend to have a specific topic (for example, anxiety management or self-esteem) which is addressed each week through discussion and specific activities in the group time. For example, members in an anxiety management group meeting might learn a new technique for decreasing stress, practice it during the meeting, and then discuss how they might apply this technique during the week. The next group meeting might include further discussion about members’ experiences of anxiety during the week, their use of techniques, and further instruction and support.
