The Mid-Atlantic Association for Employment in Education (MAEE), an organization which promotes professional standards and practices in teacher preparation and job placement, wishes to provide support to a graduate student who is enrolled in a Student Affairs or related program and who intends to enter the career development/counseling field upon program completion .
Student Eligibility
Candidates for this award will be enrolled in a graduate program in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related discipline, have completed at least 12 credits, but not more than 30 credits, by September 1, 2008, and will continue in the Spring 2009 semester as a full-time student. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Actual dollars will be awarded in the Spring 2009 semester, directly to the college/university business office account in said student's name, pending confirmation of status and/or enrollment in appropriate major by the Department Chairperson/Graduate Program Director, or comparable administrator. This award is a one-time, non-renewable grant designed to jump start the careers of these promising career counselors.
Selection Criteria
Graduate students applying for this scholarship must meet the criteria outlined above. Students will submit a one-page application, official graduate transcript(s), and a one page essay describing why they have chosen to enter the field of career development and what they hope to accomplish as a career counselor. Candidates will be selected through a consideration of their academic success, experience in the field of career development, and potential to achieve excellence as a career counselor.
Application Procedures
Applications will be available through MAEE college members; these individuals will also distribute guidelines and applications to key people on their campuses beginning in September, 2008. Applications and official transcripts will be due postmarked by the December 1, 2008 deadline, and forwarded to the Anna Tackett Scholarship Committee. The Committee will make recommendations (including alternates) to the MAEE Executive Board at its annual Jan/Feb meeting. The recipient will be notified of his/her status and monies will be awarded during the Spring semester, 2009.
