Guidelines for MAEE Research Grants
Overview
MAEE's mission statement indicates that the organization is "dedicated
to the promotion and improvement of preparing, recruiting, hiring and retaining
quality teachers." Each year MAEE seeks to fund research projects that
support the organization's mission by awarding MAEE Research Grants to members.
Eligibility for Research Grant
The principal researcher must be a current member.
Grant Amounts Awarded
The MAEE Executive Board has final approval of research grants. Application
for research funds does not guarantee that MAEE will fund a project. The number
of research grants awarded in a fiscal year depends on available financial resources.
A maximum of $1,000 will be awarded to each approved research grant proposal.
Request for Proposals
- An announcement regarding the availability of research grants will be made
at the business meeting during the annual conference. Members will be directed
to the MAEE website
(www.udel.edu/CSC/maee/research.html)
for grant information and application procedures.
- A call for proposals will be included in the first issue of the MAEE
Report which follows the annual conference. The announcement will direct
members to the MAEE website
for grant information and application procedures.
Proposal Deadline
The Research Grants Committee will accept proposals beginning January 1. The
completed application must be submitted by April 15 for consideration for the
following school year.
Application Process
1. The applicant should submit a grant proposal, not to exceed three typed
pages, by the deadline. The proposal must include the following:
- Research title
- Amount of grant requested
- Project dates, including beginning date and ending date
- Project director and contact information, including name, title, organization,
address, phone number, and email address
- Other project team members and contact information
- Abstract/brief summary of research
- Background and rationale for research
- Goals and objectives of the research
- Relevance of the research to MAEE's mission of "promotion and improvement
of preparing, recruiting, hiring and retaining quality teachers." What
is the significance of this research to the MAEE organization and its membership?
- Description of research methodology
- Project timeline and activities for planning, conducting, and completing
the research
- Expected results
2. On a separate page, submit an itemized budget (not to exceed $1,000) which
includes anticipated expenditures and the requested grant amount for each expenditure.
Please list any funds provided by other revenue sources, such as matching funds
or in-kind contributions that will be provided from the sponsoring institution.
Submission of Grant Proposal
Grant proposals should be submitted as an email attachment by the April 15
deadline to the MAEE Research Committee Chairperson: Ms. Connie
J. Laughlin, Director of Career Services, Clarion University, 840 Wood Street,

Selection Criteria
All research proposals submitted by the deadline will be evaluated by the
MAEE Research Committee. Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Relevance to the MAEE mission (available on the MAEE website, www.udel.edu/CSC/maee/maasbkg.htm)
- Clarity of purpose
- Originality of research project
- Appropriateness of design
- Compliance with budget request
Notification Process
The Research Grant Committee's recommendation for approved proposals will be
submitted to the MAEE Executive Board at its May/June meeting for final approval.
Following the MAEE Executive Board's approval, all grant applicants will be
notified by email of the decisions made with regard to the proposals. In addition,
grant recipients will receive an award letter and a check from the treasurer
within 30 days of the final approval.
Reporting Results
- A final report must be submitted as an email attachment to the Research
Grants Committee chairperson within 60 days of the completion of the research
project.
- The project director and/or project team members must agree to share research
results with the MAEE membership (e.g. MAEE newsletter, an annual conference
session).
