Early Childhood Education
Human Services (Concentrations: Clinical Services; Administration and Family Policy; Community Education; Family & Consumer Sciences Education)

The department offers two undergraduate majors: Early Childhood Education and Human Services. The Early Childhood Education major is designed for students who plan on working with young children in inclusive school, family, and community settings. Certification options allow students to pursue careers as teachers of children birth to second grade, special education, and in early intervention for children with disabilities. The Human Services major offers four concentrations: Clinical Services, Administration and Family Policy, Community Education, and Family & Consumer Sciences Education. The Clinical Services concentration prepares students for careers in human services, prevention, and family support programs. It is designed for students who want "hands on" practical experiences in the field, culminating in a clinical internship. Students often pursue graduate studies in social work, psychology, health sciences, and law. The Administration and Family Policy concentration emphasizes program development, management, advocacy, and social policy. Students enter careers or graduate study in public administration, community development and community psychology, family policy and family studies, family law, and social work. The Community Education concentration is for students who will teach and educate children in community, after school, and early intervention settings. They learn about both educational techniques as well as human service delivery systems. The Family & Consumer Sciences Education concentration is for students who wish to teach in middle and high schools primarily in the content areas of child development and human services (family and consumer sciences).  Interested students are invited to contact the department office, 111 Alison West, call 831-6500, or visit the department's web site at http://www.hdfs.udel.edu.
