Hospitality Industry Studies

The Hospitality Industry Studies major leads to a Bachelor of Science Degree that is based in liberal arts and business, with an emphasis on quantitative and analytical skills to support decision making in hospitality businesses. The curriculum is designed for students with a strong career interest in analytical and support functions such as consulting, commercial real estate transaction services, sales and marketing, revenue management, e-business and hospitality information technology in the global hospitality industry. The major prepares students for careers in the hospitality industry that require superior analytical and problem-solving skills at the conceptual level. Students, in active consultation with faculty advisors, will choose a selected combination of courses that will build their knowledgebase towards a key area of interest.

Students in the Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management also have the opportunity to participate in a 4+1+1 MBA program. With careful planning, academically eligible students can complete both their undergraduate degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management or Hospitality Industry Studies and the Master of Business Administration degree in five years of academic study plus a 12 month internship.
Interested students should contact the Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management Department (Raub Hall, located on the corner of Main Street and North College Avenue) by calling 831-6077 or may visit their web site at www.hrim.udel.edu.
