Food and Agribusiness Management

The Food and Agribusiness Management (FABM) major offers a business education with a twist. Building on the basics of business, including accounting, finance, marketing, and leadership, the FABM major incorporates a special focus on the multi-million dollar food and fiber industry. Not only do our students achieve a background in business principles, but they leave the program with a working knowledge of how the agribusiness sector operates and impacts domestic and world economies. We teach about international trade, product management, human resources, finance, and strategies of successful salesmanship. Our students get to experience a course in Futures Trading, where an on-site link to the Chicago Board of Trade shows how the market is doing. There is an option to concentrate studies in Food Marketing, where students explore the food market system from farm to consumer, and learn to market food commodities from cereal and produce to Perdue chicken!

FABM graduates are in great demand by many business and government employers. Alumni are working in food marketing and sales, produce and food brokering, investment banking, market analysis, agricultural chemical sales, and business management for a variety of firms. Some students choose to enter graduate school to work on an MBA, a law degree, or a Master's degree in fields such as food marketing, international marketing, and agribusiness finance. Whatever your goal, we encourage you to participate in job-search workshops, career days, internships, and the National Agribusiness Association. Our student chapter of NAMA is a professional organization that helps students to develop networking and leadership skills while allowing them to network with leaders in the agribusiness industry.
