In chapter 3 of your lab manual (Deitel/Deitel/Nieto), do the following pre-lab exercises:

24-36 pp. 97-105
Note that you may skip the short answer questions (questions 19-23), but be sure that you know how to answer them; they might show up on the midterm exam.

For these and any of the pre-lab questions, you should try to answer them yourself before asking the TA or the professor how to answer them; we will tell you if your answer is correct or not, or perhaps even suggest where to read in the textbook to find the answer; but we will not "do your reading for you."
